The Position
LIFEbeat is looking for a Head of Fundraising and Communications to develop, implement and keep under review LIFEbeat’s fundraising strategy to raise over £600k by 2021 from major donors, corporates, trusts and foundations. As part of the senior management team, the appointed person will play a key role in the leadership and direction of LIFEbeat, acting as a role model for others. He/she/they will manage LIFEbeat’s London office and be responsible for the following:
Fundraising
• Develop and execute the LIFEbeat fundraising strategy to create reliable and diversified revenue streams from: Trusts and Foundations, Patrons and Individual Donors, Community Fund Sponsors, Corporate Funders
• Write funding applications, manage and develop relationships with donors to maximise their support, ensuring that reporting requirements are fulfilled and new applications prepared and submitted where appropriate
• Build on the recently created community fund initiative, organise funding events and help LIFEbeat grow in size
• Maintain and develop the administration, research and systems required to effectively target the most appropriate donors, both institutional and large foundations
• Create and manage the fundraising budget in consultation with the Board of Trustees
• Deliver on annual income and expenditure targets
• Provide reports and analysis of fundraising activities for the Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees
• Regularly analyse cost and return on investment, review strengths, weaknesses and performance of the various income streams and act accordingly
• Keep abreast of current funding issues or new funding sources available within the sector
• Keep accurate and up to date records on Salesforce
• Represent the organisation
Communications
• Develop LIFEbeat’s image as a leading charity with funding bodies, governments and other organisations in the sector
• Maintain effective networks and seek opportunities to expand and promote the role of LIFEbeat
• Develop the branding and external communications strategy of LIFEbeat, ensuring that communications are fresh, relevant and appeal to key stakeholders
• Oversee the design of the website and keep it up to date and effective. Support the development of our digital presence, including social media strategy, e-marketing activities and the website
• Be responsible for the quality of all external communications
Candidate Profile
Key attributes for the post:
Fundraising
• A minimum of 4 years’ fundraising experience with Trusts, Foundations, Major Donors, Corporates, and fundraising events.
• A proven record of achieving and exceeding income targets, including being personally responsible for converting contacts into donations. Ability to close a deal
• Experience of analysis, review and monitoring of fundraising performance
• A proactive approach to developing relationships with funders and influential decision makers
• Ability to plan an annual schedule of approaches to donors to ensure both efficiency and good stewardship
• Willingness and ability to give presentations
• Experience of using digital media and social networking
• Experience of recruiting and working with high profile ambassadors
Communications
• The ability to write compelling and inspiring copy
• An ability to identify, gather, record, organise, present and evaluate information. • Experience of representing an organisation to the media
• Experience of brand development
• Experience of managing PR campaigns which deliver results
Data Management
• Knowledge of customer database administration
• A proven record of working with colleagues and an understanding of business information needs, and of creating appropriate tools to satisfy those needs
• Strong experience of gathering and analysing a wide range of data from different sources
• Demonstrable experience of improving the efficiency and/or effectiveness of existing information tools
• Strong analytical skills, understanding which data is relevant and which is not relevant
• An ability to identify, gather, record, organise, present and evaluate information
Likely Profile:
• Educated to degree level
• A “go-get” attitude with the ability to think creatively and to respond effectively to unforeseen circumstances
• An ability to meet competing deadlines and manage workload with the minimum of supervision
• Strong strategic and financial planning skills. Experience of financial responsibility, budget setting, management and control and donor segmentation
• Strong IT skills, including familiarity with Salesforce, Word and Excel
• Excellent networker
• Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team
